Monthly Woman’s’ Wellness Drop-in Group

This month’s topic will be on Pelvic Floor Wellness. Our special guest, Adrienne McAuley is a friend and colleague. She has her Doctorate degree in Physical Therapy and is an Associate Professor @ UNE in their graduate school for Physical Therapists. She also works clinically with a focus in orthopedics, manual therapy and specifically women’s health and the lumbopelvic region (that means low back, hips and pelvic floor).
She is a Board Certified Clinical Specialist in Orthopaedic Physical Therapy and a Fellow in the American Academy of Orthopaedic Manual Physical Therapists. She continues to practice as one of few PT specialists in women’s pelvic health in the Portland area and is involved in ongoing research as part of her professional work @ UNE.
Adrienne has an ongoing passion for teaching and learning and we are lucky enough to have her join us to share some of her wisdom to help us better understand the importance of pelvic floor health and what we can do about it.
Topic: Practice healthy bladder and bowel habits for a healthy pelvic floor.
All of us has a group of pelvic muscles commonly referred to as the “pelvic floor”. Most people don’t learn about these muscles other than in the context of pregnancy, post-partum, or menopause – in part because these muscles are hormonally sensitive. These muscles contribute to bladder and bowel control, sexual satisfaction, and stability of the hips and pelvis. The good news is that just like any other muscle group, these muscles can improve their performance. Healthy muscles that can contract, relax, and lengthen will serve you well for a lifetime. Please join us to learn more about the pelvic floor muscles and how you can optimize your pelvic floor muscle function.
